Here’s to 2025: What’s Next for Us, Nomads?
Let's talk about what we're ready to leave behind, what to carry forward, and how much it means to have each of you along for the journey.
Hola, Midlife Nomads!
With 2025 just around the corner, I wish you a year filled with joy, curiosity, and adventure. Whether you’re planning your next trip, exploring near home, or dreaming about what’s ahead, I hope this coming year brings you closer to the life you’ve been imagining.
2024 has been a whirlwind of big adventures, quiet moments, and plenty of lessons learned. And without a doubt, focusing on Midlife Nomads has been one of the most rewarding parts of this journey. Here’s a quick look back at a few of the top posts from this past year—the ones you read and liked the most:
Your comments, personal stories, and thoughtful engagement have made this far more meaningful than a blog to me, and I thank you for that.
I can see that so many of us are feeling unsettled and searching for something deeper… a sense of purpose, greater freedom, a fresh perspective. Knowing that these ideas resonate with others has been both humbling and inspiring.
I hope this space continues to grow as a place to explore those trends, share stories of possibility, and remind us that it’s never too late to dream bigger or take a new path. There’s so much to discover, and I’m grateful to have this community to share it with.

On that note, there’s much on the horizon to be excited about! Here’s a peek at what I’m planning for the first half of 2025:
Nicaragua & Honduras: Two Central American gems calling with their lush landscapes and vibrant cultures. We’ll be heading to Nicaragua soon to finalize our property purchase (farmland we might one day build upon) and are taking the boys to Utila, Honduras, for March Break.
India & Sri Lanka: Our exchange student heads back to Japan in June, my youngest graduates high school, and I’m heading to Dharamkot and Weligama with Hacker Paradise!
Turkey: Time for some medical care I cannot access in Canada, and hopefully a few adventures in and around Istanbul.
The destinations are one thing, but 2024 has reinforced for me that how we structure our lives matters just as much as where we go. Over time, I’ve started to pull back from time-sensitive work and timezone-specific meetings. The rigidity doesn’t align with what I want my life to look like going forward.
In 2025, I’m building more flexibility into my days with my own publications, limited client work, and meaningful projects I can pursue at my own pace. I still enjoy the tech writing that has made up a large part of my career, but am learning to balance it out with things that feel more personally gratifying and aren’t as demanding of my time.
There are things I’m leaving behind, too. I’ve never been one for making resolutions, especially those involving less food or more torturous exercise. 😁 But I do find New Year’s Eve a great time to shed things I’ve grown tired of carrying around—old goals, unnecessary obligations, or the weight of other people’s expectations, etc. Ritual is a powerful tool here, and once I’ve identified the habits, activities, or relationships I need to let go of (even if only for a while), it all goes on paper and into my fire bowl for a proper goodbye and good riddance.
Becoming more nomadic in midlife means a lot of practical changes, too. In the next year, I plan to end my car lease in Canada. Trevor and I will share when I’m home, and aside from that, I’ll walk or bike. I’m starting to downsize our life and put more in storage or get rid of things entirely. I’m paring down my wardrobe and letting go of all of the “maybe it’ll fit one day” or “I might it need for a special occasion” clothes in favour of simplicity, comfort, and portability.
With my kids nearly grown, life is shifting in ways that feel both unfamiliar and full of possibility. It’s a strange but exciting space to be in; like I’m standing at the edge of something new, not entirely sure what’s ahead but ready to take the next steps.
But what about you?
As the new year begins, what are you ready to explore, embrace, or let go of?
Maybe there’s a trip you’ve been dreaming about, or a new skill you’ve wanted to learn. Perhaps, like me, you’re finding it’s time to release the things that no longer serve you.
The start of a new year is the perfect moment to pause and ask yourself:
What do I want to make room for in my life?
What possibilities am I ready to pursue?
And what can I leave behind to create the space I need to grow?
Whatever your plans, I hope you’ll give yourself the gift of listening to what truly calls to you. It’s never too late to chart a new course or take a leap toward the life you’ve been imagining.
Here’s to 2025 being a year of bold moves, quiet joys, and meaningful discoveries—for you, for me, and for all of us. I’m so grateful to have you here as part of this community, and I can’t wait to hear about the adventures and transformations you’re planning in the year ahead.
Happy New Year, and here’s to all the possibilities waiting for us on the horizon!
Warmly,
Miranda
