ONE STEP CLOSER

A lot of people assume building a location-independent life requires significantly more money. Or some rare, hard-won skill set they don’t yet possess. Or a dramatic leap they’re not quite brave enough to take.

They’re wrong.

Often, the thing keeping you in place isn’t a lack of income. It’s the amount you believe you need.

There’s a particular heaviness that comes from a high monthly burn rate… trust me, as a mom + child smack in the middle of my Sandwich Generation and all that entails, I get it.

This heaviness that comes from high monthly expenses doesn’t necessarily show up as panic, but can manifest as hesitation.

You don’t think you have time to test the consulting offer. You can’t risk taking the month abroad. You won’t risk renegotiating with the client because you can’t afford to lose them.

Too much depends on keeping everything exactly as it is.

But what if the first step toward your freedom isn’t earning more? Showing yourself where you need less might actually give you more confidence to take that next step.

One Step Closer is our no-fluff series on taking small, intentional steps toward a freer, location-independent life — without burning out or starting over.
