We ultimately bought a solar powered generator (not a huge one) that can power our satellite and devices during power outages, which are the most frequent failure we have happening here. Well-worth it, if you're staying in one place.

That’s smart. One of the homes I pet-sit at in Nicaragua has one and it’s the only way I can do long stays… the downtime is almost none, even when power outages last a day or more.

Exactly. For the long-term, especially living in a rural area, it’s a must-have.

This is SO helpful! Thanks. (I knew I needed systems for backup & keeping track of everything--but I didn't know what to I actually needed..). I'm a beginner at many technical aspects of working remotely, though here in the Balkans, I've certainly experienced inconvenient power outages & inconsistent internet service. I guard my plug adapters & power pack with my life!

I'm glad you find it helpful! It took me a while (and a lot of lessons learned the hard way) to figure out what's needed to keep connected and my files safe. I'm sure there's still more I could be doing, too... if anyone has more suggestions or tips on backup systems you use while traveling and working remote, please share!
