Group trips built for remote workers are evolving. In this pic: Some of the HP Prague crew from 2021.

We’ve seen quite a bit of moving and shaking in the nomad trip space recently, from Remote Year’s permanent closure to Noma Collective’s acquisition of Hacker Paradise and the shutdown or sale of several Selina locations.

As sad as it may be to see some of our favourites changing, this can be expected in a market that’s seen as much movement as nomad group travel has since the pandemic.

COVID-19 brought an explosion of remote work activity and opened the world to work-from-anywhere life for many. Some companies adapted more successfully than others. I’d put Noma Collective in this category, with their seemingly strong community and slow-but-steady growth allowing them to incorporate Hacker Paradise into their program.

Others didn’t fare so well. WeWork and Selina each made big bets, and each failed to deliver on investors’ expectations.

Maybe there’s something to be said about staying small versus attempting to capitalize on the nomad market in such a grandiose way? I mean, some of us at least are a bit jaded with the whole corporate/capitalist scene.

I guess it makes sense that these smaller companies are more nimble and able to pivot more quickly to their customers needs while the larger ones seem to be struggling to find their footing.
