Big Tom, Tiny Azul & Invisible Jerry Get a Visit from the Nica Vets
Everybody's getting a glow-up, like it or not.
That… was an ordeal.
This little guy showed up a few weeks back, and nothing would deter him from moving right in with Tom & Jerry. They took him in, and I just do what I’m told here.
(There’s a whole secret society of cats here in Granada, Nicaragua. They live in the trees and on the rooftops. They decide which houses they live in, and this house came with two.)
I found a veterinarian to come to the house and check everyone out. Ain’t no way I’m trapping 3 cats and getting them into a taxi.
The black cat (who was Gato Negro until this morning and is now ‘Azul’ because I needed him to have a real name before his first big doctor’s appointment) made a terrible racket.
But for the most part, he just laid there and took the blood work and exam like a champ.
After his dental exam, the vet said Azul is 6 years old (!!!).
I thought he was a kitten, he’s so small and malnourished. 🥺
We’ll await test results to see what we’re dealing with, then trap him and take him in for the full glow-up of vaccinations, the snip-snip, and anything else he needs.
Tom was SKETCHED RIGHT OUT by Azul’s exam and in hindsight, we probably should have done him first. He was oddly protective, too.

Tom is the big feral fella who spent 2 weeks at a local veterinary hospital in December recovering from… well, his life.
He was a total gangster until Christmas and has been living his best life ever since.
He has a minor skin issue that needs checked out. If only he agreed.
The vets almost caught Tom today. Unfortunately, he fought them off like a boss, then yeeted himself up a tree and over the compound wall.
And Jerry?
Nowhere to be found. He’s the smart one!
For the curious among you, the cost of today’s veterinary house call with bloodwork, oral swabs, and a skin scraping for testing Azul was 700 cordobas.
That’s about $19 USD, or $25.60 CDN.
I gave them a 300 cordoba tip for coming to the house (and for having to deal with temperamental Tom). They’ll come back another day with bigger gloves and perhaps a live trap to get Tom’s skin swabs.
In the meantime, please send good vibes and happy thoughts for Azul. He needs some lovin’.
